The recent flooding and waterlogging in Bangalore have once again highlighted the city's poor urban infrastructure. This issue has been plaguing the city for a long time, with short-term solutions being implemented to fix the symptoms rather than addressing the root cause of the problem. The absence of municipal leadership is evident, as the city lacks a directly-elected mayor and effective town planning.

The tweet by Tejasvi Surya highlights the need for a well-structured town planning body that can approach urban infrastructure development in a holistic manner. This would involve creating walkable footpaths, layout gardens, and strictly governed traffic and parking rules to give pedestrians and public transport prominence. The absence of such a body is evident from the city's unapproachable BBMP officials and the lack of accountability.

The tweet also emphasizes the need for a comprehensive public transportation system that complements each other, such as the metro, suburban railway, and bus system. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has taken steps in the right direction with the BMLTA, but the current government has failed to take any step forward or delegate powers to traffic engineers.

Unless Bangalore takes up town planning and reworks its layouts, the city's urban infrastructure will remain a dream. The tweet urges for change and highlights the need for transformational thinking to address the city's pressing issues.
