The Indian government has taken a significant step in its efforts to amend the Waqf Act. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was introduced in the Lok Sabha and is now being sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for further scrutiny.

According to Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, the government is ready to face any questions or concerns that the JPC may have about the legislation.

The introduction of this bill aims to bring significant changes to the existing Waqf Act, which deals with the management and administration of Muslim charitable trusts, also known as waqfs. The amendment is expected to address various issues related to the functioning of these trusts, including their financial management and accountability.

The government's willingness to subject its legislation to further scrutiny reflects a commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
