The Indian Navy's submarine, INS Shalki, has made a historic visit to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The two-day visit is a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

On arrival, the submarine was accorded a ceremonial reception by the Sri Lanka Navy.

During the visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Shalki is scheduled to call on the Commander of the Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral WDCU Kumarasinghe, followed by a briefing and visit with Sri Lanka Navy personnel onboard.

INS Shalki is a Shishumar class diesel-electric submarine that was commissioned into the Indian Navy on February 7, 1992. What makes this visit historic is that INS Shalki is the first ever submarine to be built in India.
