The Bihar Assembly has passed an anti-paper leak bill with a provision for imprisonment and a hefty fine. The bill was passed by voice vote, indicating widespread support among lawmakers.

According to the new law, those found guilty of leaking examination papers can face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of ₹1 crore.

In addition to these penalties, the service provider responsible for the leak will also be held accountable. A portion of the total cost of conducting the examination will be recovered from the offending party.

As the state looks to implement this new law, it remains to be seen how effective it will be in reducing the incidence of paper leaks. One thing is certain, however: the Bihar Assembly's move has sent a clear signal that it takes the issue seriously and is committed to protecting the integrity of its education system.
