The recent devastation in Wayanad has left many wondering if the condolences offered by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be enough to ease the pain of those affected.

Reports from the Gadgil and Kasturirangan panels had warned of the risks posed by unregulated environmental exploitation in the area, but these findings were rejected by the Congress-led government at the time.

As an MP, Rahul Gandhi had served for five years during which time Wayanad was placed 13th on the Landslide Atlas of India in February 2023. Critics argue that he did not do enough to prevent or mitigate the disaster.

The people of Wayanad deserve answers about how this tragedy could have been prevented or mitigated. The Congress party must take responsibility for its past mistakes and work towards rebuilding and restoring the affected areas.
