The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of Indian citizens residing or imprisoned abroad. In a recent statement in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh highlighted the pressing concern, noting that 9728 Indian prisoners, including undertrials, are currently incarcerated in foreign prisons.

According to the minister's statistics, around 125 Indian citizens have been sentenced to death or life imprisonment over the past decade in foreign countries. This revelation underscores the need for concerted efforts to ensure the welfare of these individuals and their families back home.

The government's priority is evident in its focus on addressing this critical issue. The magnitude of the problem becomes more apparent when considering the complexity involved in navigating foreign legal systems, cultural differences, and linguistic barriers.

In this context, the government's commitment to supporting Indian nationals in foreign prisons assumes significant importance. As India continues to engage with the global community, it is essential that we prioritize the safety and security of our citizens abroad.
