Chandipura Virus Outbreak in Gujarat: Updates and Response

A recent outbreak of Chandipura virus has been reported in Gujarat, with a total of 148 cases reported, including 140 from the state itself. Unfortunately, 59 of these cases have resulted in fatalities. The Chandipura virus has been confirmed in 51 out of the total cases reported.

According to updates, a declining trend has been observed since July 19th, 2024, with the daily reported new cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) showing a downward trajectory. This development is being closely monitored by health officials to ensure that public health measures are effective in containing the spread of the virus.

To further investigate and contain the outbreak, the National Joint Outbreak Response Team has been deployed in Gujarat. The team will work closely with local authorities to conduct a detailed epidemiological investigation into the outbreak and implement necessary public health measures.

In addition, a joint advisory has been issued by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NCVBDC) to guide neighboring states that have reported AES cases. This advisory aims to provide guidance on the prevention and control of the virus.
